The general rule for wrongful death is that you have to prove that the negligence of a defendant caused or substantially contributed to causing the injuries that resulted in the death of the person. So, a defendant can be liable for wrongful death if they are one of the causes. They don’t have to be the only cause. You can have a situation where multiple health care providers combine and they are all negligent, but if each one of them, their negligence substantially contributes to the overall negligence, then they are liable.
